Before this class had started an information system was nothing I could talk in-depth about. Understanding what an IS actually is and what it does is a necessity in any type of business related work path. An IS holds information for a company or business and analyzes this information, revising it so workers can understand it and organize this information according to the companies project. IS plays a big role in how companies organize and store data, these systems can be used in all aspects of business and more. Not only are IS used for business related situations they can be found in sports, education, medical practices, military practices and much more.
I really liked this opportunity to learn about information systems because all of this class was pretty much using one. Moodle connected us with our professor and each other, enabling us to share information and assignments while we critiqued each other and learned as a whole. Learning about a certain concept while actually practicing it, as a class tool really was a different approach to learning. Also I would not have realized that Facebook is actually a massive IS as well, and without this class I probably would not have known this. We share with our friend’s status and comments, which can be seen as information, and we can even organize events by connecting with friends through the Internet, while all of our actions on Facebook are recorded in our profiles history. We can find examples of IS everywhere we look.
I learned many new actions and items that play roles in how IS work and operate. Understanding how Zoho works will really help me moving forward. Zoho plays a role as a software component and is an internal component for any organization that uses it. I really like using Zoho and experimenting with how many functions it has to offer from spreadsheets to databases it can really aid in a lot of work related practices. I really understand now that many of the applications and types of hardware and software I use are all connected through cloud computing. When I use Loop Labs to work on music with my friends all of that music can be shared through the Internet as well as when I use Kicksonfire to design new clothing for the ‘Simple’ company my friends and I have established. All computers contribute to creating a massive cloud of information which links all computers together enabling all of them to share information with each other. Understanding how these practices work will really help me understand and progress later in life with outside help and feedback.
